Gareth de Walters

I'm a web manager and web production specialist from Auckland, New Zeland. I've produced websites and digtal experiences for the likes of the British Film Institute, the University of Auckland, Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, Vodafone NZ, Heart Foundation NZ and Chorus.

This is my personal website where I publish articles about website production, food and drink, genealogy, linguistics, history and anything else that might pique my interest.

www.dewalters.net is published in Auckland, New Zealand using the Grav content management system and hosted on Digital Ocean.

The CMS and site design was implemented by me using Sebastian's Kick-Off starter templates for the UIKit 3 frontend framework.

I'm not a frontend designer, so this site's theme takes inspiration from the design of blogs and news sites I admire. Sites like Radio New Zealand, Zeldman on Web & Interaction Design, The Guardian and Daring Fireball.

This site is produced using:

The site logo (did I mention I'm not a graphic designer either?) incorporates the gules (red) three chevronels argent (silvery white) from the flag of Glamorgan (yn Gymraeg: Baner Morgannwg). That design was in turn taken from the arms of Iestyn ap Gwrgant, the last independent ruler of Glamorgan – the region where many of my Welsh family comes from.
